As a result of teachers in our Diocese asking for resource sharing for classes, I decided to embrace technology and use it as a portal whereby all catechism teachers can share teaching, lesson and craft ideas.
This is your portal too, so I welcome all your input, ideas and feedback along the way.
I intend to group the resources into age groups:
Ages 2 - 5
Ages 6 - 7
Ages 8 -9
Age 10 (First Holy Communion)
Age 11 - 12
Age 13 to 15
Age 15 to 17 (Confirmation)
I will also do a lot of quoting and when I do, will reference my quotations to the source from which they are derived.
I found a wonderful booklet written by Judith Dunlap: "When you are a catechist" (Published by St Anthony Messenger Press)
Co-ordinators or leaders of the catechetical teams, this is a splendid book to give to your catechist when you recruit them. It outlines such easy to read and welcoming tones, exactly what is expected of a catechism teacher.
I quote from the last page of this book:
"The first and last point of reference of this catechesis will always be Jesus Christ himself, who is "the way, and the truth, and the life." It is by looking to Him in faith taht Christ's faithful can hope the He Himself fulfills His promises in them, and that, by loving Him with the same love He has loved them, they may perform works in keeping with their dignity" (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1698)
This is the foundation of this blog spot. That whatever is posted on this blog may glorify our Lord Jesus Christ.
May these blogs edify you and bless you in your vocation as a catechist.
Yours in Christ
